The Amazing Grace Movement

Religion must give way to spirituality

Part One:
by Jim Drush

It is said and recorded throughout history that about every seventy years a major change or shift takes place. This seems particular true of countries or civilizations.

I feel we are in such a change in America today and the change is taking place on a spiritual front. But it is not taking place within organized religion.

I first want to go into what I see taking place before I try to explain why I think its taking place.

A spiritual movement I feel is sweeping this nation that is and will continue to have major impact on all organized religion as we know it today.

It is a grass -roots movement not coming from within the churches and synagogues where all the "normies" hang out. It is coming with the millions of people who have not found in organized religion what they need to survive.

The "normies" need to have a spiritual experience.

Throughout the world people are coming together to share their experience, strength, and hope with each other. They are all coming together as equals. We all come as sinners in need of help. There is not one among us who does not share the human experience of being human. And as a human being we are not perfect and we need help. When we are able to come out of denial and can admit that. And we can also admit that we surrender, and are willing to surrender our will-power to a higher-power, then we are in recovery. Then we are truly having a spiritual experience.

Pride blocks a "normie" from getting into Recovery

Every religion teaches that pride is a sin. Every religion also understands the teachings of Jesus on pride. Jesus considered pride as great a sin as adultery. Yet every religion wants to address the adultery issue but only pays lip service to the pride issue. I think it is clear why Jesus paid such attention to pride. He knows that If we all can not come together as equals there is pride, and where there is pride there is sin, a sin as great as adultery, or fornication.

Pride produces hypocrisy

Jesus and Paul were also very clear in their message to the church about hypocrisy. And you notice they were talking to the church because they knew this would be the churches greatest problem. Because the "normie" within the church had not then and still is unable to face the pride issue and surrender.

To Give Up Pride Would Mean Having To Give Up Control

The most difficult think for the "normie to do is to give up control. To admit that I am not god....to admit that I have two sides...a good side and ....a bad side....is something that so far throughout history, the "normie" has been unwilling to do. But even worse....

The Church itself has been the worst offender

It is no wonder that most persons who have found a family within a twelve step program report that ...in most part...have given up on the church because they were sick of the hypocrisy they had witnessed within the church by the "normies"

Everyone within the church from the minister on down will admit they are not perfect. They will even admit they fail regularly. But they won't tell you about their womanizing thoughts or how they have been coveting the new home their friend got. These, according to Jesus and Paul were, if you were under the law, just as bad as adultery. But the hypocrites would still keep there pride and maintain their perfection.

This is what the twelve step member has watched the "normie" do, and yet when the addict, or alcoholic, or co-dependent, or workaholic comes foreword within the organized church and gives up his or her pride which is exactly what Jesus and Paul said we all must do; the hypocrite or "normie" would extend their hand in a condescending way to this honest person and pretend like they don't have any of this themselves. This is the greatest sin that is taking place within the church today just as it was going on in the days of Jesus and Paul. It was their greatest warning, thus the reason the church won't be respected .

I am convinced that if Jesus came back to each today in person, the last place you would find him would be in the churches and synagogues

Remember...
according to the Experts: 96% of the world population is considered "normies ."

And Always Keep In Mind The Most Important Factor

"What we live with we learn,
and what we learn
we practice, and what we
practice, we become...
and what we become
has consequences"...
AND almost always, I have
found, who we become
has little to do with who
we were meant to be.

DISCLAMER: Before you start to look at the material that I have assembled for you I want to make clear that I claim very little original authorship here. Even where I don't give credit I probably should because there are very few original words of wisdom left in recovery. I want to especially thank Terry Kellogg, whom I do believe has a lot of original stuff, John Bradshaw whom I believe has the ability to synthesize others material better that anyone I know, and I guess if we wanted to be completely accurate we should not quote the serenity prayer out of content nor without giving credit to the author. I also want to give permission to anyone to use anything on this site for the benefit of recovery as long as they do not make any more money off of it. This offer only extends to what I have the right to give.
