My Road To A Spiritual Awakening

My God's plan and the church's plan...
is not the same...
and good intentions, mean little.

* Pr 11:9 An hypocrite with [his] mouth destroyeth his neighbor: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.

Dr. M. Scott Peck, author of "The road less traveled" said in "The people of the lie" that it is his experience that the central distinction between evil and ordinary sin is "...the subtlety and persistence and consistency of their sins. This is because the central defect of the evil in not the sin but the refusal to acknowledge it." He also stated that "..evil people are not designated criminals. More often than not they will be "solid citizens"-Sunday school teachers, policemen, or bankers and active in the PTA."

I believe that the above scripture provides a base for us to see and understand the difference between the information we have been receiving from the hypocrites and the need for us to acquire KNOWLEDGE...allow new information to come in so that we are not deceived by the hypocrites.

* Job 13:16 He also [shall be] my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him.

I believe in God's idea for man and I believe he entrusted his son Jesus to articulate that idea. I believe Jesus did make very clear those ideas... and man failed to interpret correctly. . Man (the hypocrite) put a slant on the bible that would benefit his need for control.

The contradictions become obvious when you read the words of Jesus. It became a problem when the persons trying to use the bible as a method to control, include the words of Jesus, and then turn around and go the opposite direction in their own selfish motives.

Jesus makes a few things very clear which most Christians don't want to deal with.

* Mt 7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

1. Mt 19:16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?

17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

19 Honor thy father and [thy] mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?

21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go [and] sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come [and] follow me.

22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. .

Jesus made a major point here that has been downplayed throughout history ...I feel Jesus was very clearly saying there will always be with us those who will flaunt their self imposed righteousness and Jesus knew they were hypocrites because he knew they would be unwilling to put their money where their mouth was...Jesus was testing him....Had this man said that he was a sinner and that he regularly broke most of those laws...I think Jesus would have been impressed....no matter how many possessions the man had..nor would have Jesus asked him to give away his possessions.

2. Jesus said “Thou shall have no other gods before me.”

3. Mt 19:19 Honor thy father and [thy] mother: and, Thou shalt LOVE thy neighbor as thyself.*

4.. Jesus picked his disciples not from the “church” but from the common man.

5.. Jesus was not interested in most of the so called “sins” that the church is stressing.

6.. In fact Jesus was not interested in most of the things the church is stressing today.

The church has fallen flat on it's face on the first two items and this is the reason almost anything else they do is mere bible thumping, and chest thumping.

These are just a few obvious ones that the Christian church has yet to deal with because the church is in denial.

The reason why the church has taken almost an opposite position of Jesus is that it is necessary for them to do so in order to maintain there addictions...

Their addictions to control...money...workaholism..sex....food..perfectionism..combined with their narcissism and pride will keep them in bondage to themselves.

It does little good to talk about satan and all the things he has the power to do...Most Christians act like Satan only exists for someone else to deal with, not the individual Christian....The “Satan escape” is so often used to avoid dealing with the real problem and to avoid taking personal responsibility.

Remember* Pr 11:9 An hypocrite with [his] mouth destroyeth his neighbor: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.

Mt 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

Mt 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.( Mt 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt LOVE the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment.

39 And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt LOVE thy neighbor as thyself.)Jesus was setting up an impossible situation. He knew that for a person to LOVE their neighbor as themselves would first require for the person to LOVE themselves in a very functional way. (No hypocrisy allowed here) Jesus knew that this was the only hope for Christianity.

** This is how many times Jesus referred to the word LOVE in the new testament:

Mt 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt LOVE thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy.

Mt 5:44 But I say unto you, LOVE your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Mt 5:46 For if ye LOVE them which LOVE you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

Mt 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites [are]: for they LOVE to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Mt 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and LOVE the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Mt 19:19 Honor thy father and [thy] mother: and, Thou shalt LOVE thy neighbor as thyself.

Mt 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt LOVE the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Mt 22:39 And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt LOVE thy neighbor as thyself.

Mt 23:6 And LOVE the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,

Mt 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the LOVE of many shall wax cold.

** Then from Mark thru John here are the rest of the times Jesus refereed to the word LOVE.

Mr 12:30 And thou shalt LOVE the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this [is] the first commandment.

Mr 12:31 And the second [is] like, [namely] this, Thou shalt LOVE thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Mr 12:33 And to LOVE him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to LOVE [his] neighbor as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

Mr 12:38 And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which LOVE to go in long clothing, and [LOVE] salutations in the marketplaces,

Lu 6:27 But I say unto you which hear, LOVE your enemies, do good to them which hate you,

Lu 6:32 For if ye LOVE them which LOVE you, what thank have ye? for sinners also LOVE those that LOVE them.

Lu 6:35 But LOVE ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and [to] the evil.

Lu 7:42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will LOVE him most?

Lu 10:27 And he answering said, Thou shalt LOVE the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.

Lu 11:42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the LOVE of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Lu 11:43 Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye LOVE the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

Lu 16:13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and LOVE the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Lu 20:46 Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and LOVE greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;

Joh 5:42 But I know you, that ye have not the LOVE of God in you.

Joh 8:42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would LOVE me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

Joh 10:17 Therefore doth my Father LOVE me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

Joh 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye LOVE one another; as I have LOVEd you, that ye also LOVE one another.

Joh 13:35 By this shall all [men] know that ye are my disciples, if ye have LOVE one to another. Joh 14:15 If ye LOVE me, keep my commandments.

Joh 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that LOVEth me: and he that LOVEth me shall be LOVEd of my Father, and I will LOVE him, and will manifest myself to him.

Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man LOVE me, he will keep my words: and my Father will LOVE him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Joh 14:31 But that the world may know that I LOVE the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.

Joh 15:9 As the Father hath LOVEd me, so have I LOVEd you: continue ye in my LOVE.

Joh 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my LOVE; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his LOVE.

Joh 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye LOVE one another, as I have LOVEd you.

Joh 15:13 Greater LOVE hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Joh 15:17 These things I command you, that ye LOVE one another.

Joh 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would LOVE his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

Joh 17:26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare [it]: that the LOVE wherewith thou hast LOVEd me may be in them, and I in them.

Joh 21:15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, [son] of Jonas, LOVEst thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I LOVE thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

Joh 21:16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, [son] of Jonas, LOVEst thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I LOVE thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Joh 21:17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, [son] of Jonas, LOVEst thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, LOVEst thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I LOVE thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

** And then there are these “Commandments” and how they are referred to that most christians would have a hard time living up to...if not impossible.

Mt 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach [them], the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Mt 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men.

Mr 7:7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men.

Mr 10:19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honor thy father and mother.

Mr 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments [is], Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

Lu 1:6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

Lu 18:20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor thy father and thy mother.

Joh 14:15 If ye LOVE me, keep my commandments.

Joh 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that LOVEst me: and he that LOVEst me shall be LOVEd of my Father, and I will LOVE him, and will manifest myself to him.

Joh 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my LOVE; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in.

And Always Keep In Mind The Most Important Factor

"What we live with we learn,
and what we learn
we practice, and what we
practice, we become...
and what we become
has consequences"...
AND almost always, I have
found, who we become
has little to do with who
we were meant to be.

DISCLAMER: Before you start to look at the material that I have assembled for you I want to make clear that I claim very little original authorship here. Even where I don't give credit I probably should because there are very few original words of wisdom left in recovery. I want to especially thank Terry Kellogg, whom I do believe has a lot of original stuff, John Bradshaw whom I believe has the ability to synthesize others material better that anyone I know, and I guess if we wanted to be completely accurate we should not quote the serenity prayer out of content nor without giving credit to the author. I also want to give permission to anyone to use anything on this site for the benefit of recovery as long as they do not make any more money off of it. This offer only extends to what I have the right to give.
